A Curation-Oriented Thematic Aggregator. Dimitris Gavrilis, Costis Dallas and Stavros Angelis

The emergence of the European Digital Library (Europeana) presents the need for aggregating content using a more intelligent and effective approach, taking into account the need to support potential changes in target metadata schemas and new services. This paper presents the concept, architecture and services provided by a curation-oriented, OAIS-compliant thematic metadata aggregator, developed and used in the CARARE project, that addresses these challenges.

Carare= is a best practice network funded by the European Commission’s ICT Policy Support Programme, CARARE brings together heritage agencies and organisations, archaeological museums and research institutions and specialist digital archives from all over Europe to establish a service that will make digital content for Europe’s unique archaeological monuments and historic sites interoperable with Europeana. It also brings 3D and Virtual Reality content to Europeana.

Carare is een erg groot schema.
OAIS-compliant
Ondersteunt veel workflows.
Ze focussen op preservation en items worden in Europeana geladen.
Als een item is toegevoegd worden er zaken aangepast, opgeschoond en ontdubbeld.
Bij invoeren worden heel veel fouten gevonden, sommige ontstaan door mappen van Carare, maar sommige ook door fouten in het originele document.

Kwaliteitscontrole is een belangrijk issue voor ze.

Ze zijn met een ander project bezig om hun tools ook geschikt te maken voor anderen. Duurt nog wel 1 a 2 jaar. O
