Mei was warm en ongelooflijk droog, en een agressieve EHEC bacterie sloeg toe. Ik heb een heerlijk weekje in de Ardennen doorgebracht, waardoor ik ruim een extra halve dag nodig had om bij te lezen, maar hier gaat-ie dan, wat mij is opgevallen in mei 2011, met nog een aantal andere items verzameld in mijn Pinboard account.

Bibliotheek
Dat catalogiseren van het web: gaat dat nou eigenlijk wel of niet goed? BUBL  LINK Catalogue of Internet Resources  is er in april mee gestopt en Intute sluit in juli van dit jaar, maar Hey Librarians, check out our “Organizing the Web” IPL’s  Pathfinders is ermee gestart en we krijgen zelfs 9 content curation tools that better organise the web.

It seems bizarre that we are still having this discussion. Thomson-Reuters say that the JIF shouldn’t be used for judging individual researchers, Eugene Garfield, the man who invented the JIF has consistently said it should never be used to judge individual researchers. Even a cursory look at the basic statistics should tell any half-competent scientist with an ounce of quantitative analysis in their bones that the Impact Factor of journals in which a given researcher publishes tells you nothing whatsoever about the quality of their work.
