Google waven was natuurlijk de bezigheid van november (als je nog een Invitatie nodig hebt, geef me een seintje) Mashable heeft tips, en er is een complete online Google Wave Guide uit. 7 Things You Should Know About Google Wave (Educause) geeft een kort en kritisch inzicht en voor starters is er een 2 minuten video: What is Google wave. (en een Google Wave handleiding – Nederlands als wave, dus alleen voor de ‘gebruikers’)

Er is veel te doen geweest over Google en de boeken: Google’s digitization of books (CBC news).  Google moet inbinden met boeken-scan project: de Europese boeken worden uit de collectie gehaald  (De Standaard / NRC). Maar dat kon ook nog wel eens goed uitwerken: Will Google survive Google books?

Put the books back where they belong. If they are from the public domain, put the electronic versions into the public domain, equally available to all – including competitors. “Scanned and made available by Google” on the book is appropriate. Print on demand would be a useful and not-evil service. If they are in copyright, give them back to the copyright owners – the publishers and author. By all means, negotiate compensation such as a share of profits to recoup the monies spent on digitization. But the sooner Google is out of the licensing business, the better for tru st in Google. If the works are orphan works, leave this matter with the legislators; join with the Open Contact Alliance to find a solution that will work for everyone.

• Google’s Creepy Social Search (PC Mag.com) en Onion maakt het nog erger met Google Announces Plan To Destroy All Information It Can’t Index. Daar is nl geen noodzaak toe: ze zijn al heel goed in ranking,  en wie kijkt er naar pagina 5 of 6 😉

• Aan Google Scholar zijn pull-down options toegevoegd: zoals altijd aan de.com versie meer dan de .nl

Zoeken

• DuckDuckGo jammer van dat kinderlijke uiterlijk,  want als je op Duck It klikt (dus geen enter geeft, of een gewone zoekactie doet) krijg je aardige Topic summaries.
• 100 searchengines in 10 minutes wel veel zoekmachines, maar de lijst is niet geannoteerd, en je zou juist willen weten wat je wanneer zou moeten gebruiken:  zo heb je er niet veel aan
